August was quiet in relation to crime fiction events for me, with the exception of the excellent launch of Martin Edwards’s new book, The Frozen Shroud. However, my reading continued at a slower pace and all the books that I finished were of a high quality, mainly I suspect I only read what I really wanted to. Three of this month’s books were by ‘new to me writers’: Martin Edwards, Linda Stratmann and A D Garett. I hope to carry on reading all of these authors.
My book of the month is Jan Costin Wagner’s Light in a Dark House which is continuing a high quality series which is a must read for me, although the book wasn’t quite up to the standard of earlier ones.
The five books I read for Crimepieces were:
1. Everyone Lies by A D Garrett
2. Cold Hearts by Gunnar Staalesen
3. The Frozen Shroud by Martin Edwards
4. Light in a Dark House by Jan Costin Wagner
5. A Case of Doubtful Death by Linda Stratmann
I have some cracking books set for September, so fingers crossed….
Thanks Sarah for your round-up. You have remind me of Jan Costin Wagner, an author whose books I have not read yet,,

Sarah – It’s quality, not quantity, and you did read some fine books. I have to say I’m very pleased you enjoyed your introduction to Martin Edwards’ books. Of course, I’m biased because I’m a fan, but I am pleased you liked them.

Sarah, I was in the middle of commenting on this yesterday when a can exploded in my garage…. and had to be dealt with.
So I am back now to say… a great group of authors. I have only read Martin Edwards but hope to try books by all the rest. And I actually purchased the first book in the Frances Doughty series by Linda Stratmann yesterday (online).

Well, the splatter from the exploding can of tomato sauce looked like a crime scene. Pretty disgusting. But nothing seriously damaged. An experience I hope I don’t have to repeat.

Hi, Sarah–
I must pay more attention to Jan Costin Wagner’s books. I read one of his books two autumns ago and only had time to read him before bed. I had no idea what was going on. He obviously deserves more of my brain than that! Of all of his books, which has been your favorite?

My favourite book is the first one, Judith called ‘Ice Moon’. It is very bleak though. But I like his style very much.

It’s having to be quality over quantity at the moment Col. But it does make for a better reading experience.

Bet one of your cracking books is the new Jo Nesbo. Can’t wait to see what you think of that one. I plan to try Jan Costin Wagner. Looked and found two of his books in my virtual library.
